News for the week of November 10-14, 2008:
There’s a brand new TV program to be found on The Education Channel, cable 20. It’s called Class Act, and each episode features a visit to a Collier County public school classroom to shine the spotlight on an outstanding teacher, nominated by his or her principal. Each show begins with a series of quotes about teaching. Teachers at all levels – elementary, middle and high school – are being featured with a fresh program debuting every two weeks. The show gives viewers the chance to sit in on a class, to eavesdrop on a lesson. The feeling of Superintendent Dennis L. Thompson in suggesting production of the Class Act program was that the lessons presented on TV should be interesting for students, parents and community members as well as other teachers. Dr. Thompson says, “We know that we have some of the best teachers in the state, if not the nation, teaching right here in Collier County. This show gives us an opportunity to learn from our own teachers, and gives us another way to celebrate the art of teaching.”
Class Act is on TV from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday thru Saturday evenings. With the addition of the new Class Act program, several other locally-produced TV shows have moved to new Monday-thru-Saturday time slots: 6:00 p.m. – District Digest; 6:30 p.m. – Passport to America; 6:50 p.m. – A Slice of the Apple; 8:30 p.m. – School Zone; 9:00 p.m. – eConnection; and 9:30 p.m. – In the Principal’s Office.
