Pathways is an individualized program of Internet instruction. It is primarily available to students in their third or fourth year of high school who need to make up credit; however, if space permits, students in their second year of high school may participate with counselor and administrative approval. The program is offered after the normal school day so students can attend their regular classes and still seek additional credit. Students are able to complete course work from home, school lab, or other facility with the appropriate Internet access.
Interested students see their grade level counselors.
OVERVIEW:
The Internet Based High School is designed to provide students the opportunity to attain a high school diploma through a non-traditional approach. Currently housed at the Alternative Education Center at 3710 Estey Avenue, the IBHS computer lab is open from 8:00 until 5:30 each school day. The staff includes a guidance counselor, a teacher for each of the core subject areas (Math, Science, English, and Social Studies) and an E.S.E. specialist. Students are able to report to the school for assistance with course work, personal meetings with teachers, and to take their exams. Those students who have not passed or taken the tenth grade FCAT are required to be tutored in small groups. Although one of the strengths of the program is the flexibility it provides students to work wherever internet access is available, students are required to report to the IBHS and encouraged to attend above the required hours. The staff is eager to provide assistance in a quiet, interruption free environment to facilitate completion of the courses. Also, IBHS has a close relationship with the Academy of Career Education (ACE) program at the Lorenzo Walker Institute of Technology. ACE students complete the academic coursework through IBHS and our guidance counselor is available to serve them.
STUDENT ELIGIBILITY:
A student must be in grades 9-12 and meet one or more of the following criteria to be considered for admission into the IBHS:
The student is over-age for grade or has been retained.
The student is considered at-risk of dropping out of school, has a lack o f interest in school, has low achievement test scores.
The student has failing grades or grades not commensurate with documented ability levels.
The student has high absenteeism.
The student has performed successfully in an educational alternative program and wishes to remain enrolled in such a program.
The student needs to make-up credits in order to graduate from high school.
For additional information, students should contact their home school counselors.
