Books
Fiction, nonfiction, and reference books are available at the Media Center. The collection includes audiobooks in CD-ROM and digital formats. To find available materials, access the Online Catalog. The loan period is 3 weeks for students with an opportunity to renew once. Reference books are not available for loan, but limited to in-library use. The maximum checkout is five books. Overdue fines are $0.05 per day.

Magazines
Subscriptions to magazines are available for in-library reading. Magazines are generally considered popular, as well as related to classes or programs. Currently, subscriptions include: Discover, PC World, Popular Mechanics, Popular Science, Prevention, Psychology Today, U.S. News and World Report, Videomaker, and Wired.
Online Subscription Services
A variety of resource databases are available online for students to use 24/7 from any computer with Internet access. Students will need to obtain the user id and passwords from the Media Specialist and/or Teacher.
- Country Watch - This is your pathway for up-to-date news and information on each of the recognized countries of the world.
- Gale Research - This portal hosts a variety of databases, both general and specific with multimedia as well as journal articles.
- FCAT Explorer - High school students can access practice for the FCAT test.
- Grolier Online - Use this database to search for encyclopedia information.
- SIRS - A comprehensive database portal for general research.
- Discovery Streaming - Containing more than 5,000 videos from Discovery Channel, BBC, and other resources, students can create their own accounts through their teacher's passcode.
Technology
A limited number of laptops and digital cameras are available for checkout. Please contact the Media Center for more information.
Internet Safety
Safe and responsible use of the Internet is a priority for the Lorenzo Walker campus. There are many resources online that provide good information for students, parents and educators. Netsmartz offers realistic video stories and a CyberTipline to report incidents of Internet exploitation.
Information Literacy
The ability to find, evaluate and use information (both print and digital) ethically is an important skill, especially for students. Thus, emphasis is placed on assisting students 1) determine key words and concepts for the search, 2) decide the most effective and efficient places to search, 3) assess the information for accuracy, recency, and fairness, and 4) to avoid plagiarism and use appropriate citations.
Orientation
An orientation to the Media Center services is offered to all students through classroom presentations.
