Message from the Superintendent |
I am excited! The first day of the 2012-2013 school year is just around the corner. Our 43,000 students will be returning to the classrooms of an “A” school district on Monday, August 20th. I wish to personally express my heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to our students, teachers and all school staff, to our school administrators, and to the parents/guardians of our students. Thank everyone for a job well done this past school year and I wish everyone the best as we embark on our journey into the new academic year. I also wish to acknowledge the generous support of all of the wonderful community members who assist us in countless ways. On the eve of the new school year we have much to celebrate as summer draws to a close for our students. Some 50 struggling third grade students will have an opportunity to advance to fourth grade thanks to their successful performance on the SAT10 during summer school. Then just yesterday, we graduated 28 students at our summer commencement exercises at the district offices. These are students who needed a little extra boost to receive their diplomas or certificates of completion. They now join the ranks of our 2,600 June graduates who are heading into the world to pursue their futures. Looking into their eyes at graduation, I know their futures are very bright; and for everyone else, I sincerely hope that the school year to come is your best ever! ~ Dr. Kamela Patton

Message from the School Board Chair |
The summer is passing quickly and it won’t be long until teachers return to their classrooms. They will be followed by students on August 20, 2012, and we will be starting a new and exciting school year. I would be remiss if I allowed us to wrap up the 2011-2012 school year without congratulating this district on their elementary and middle school and district grades. In a year when accountability standards were raised and most of the state scored lower than the year before, Collier County actually improved. As a matter of fact, we led the state in percentage of improvement. There were 23 "A" schools, up eight schools from 2011. Fifty-nine percent of our schools are "A" schools, up from 38% in 2011. We have no "F" schools and three "D" schools, down from five in 2011. Collier County is an “A” school District. Congratulations to everyone in our District. This is truly a team effort and it shows how successful we can be by working together. I particularly want to recognize our teachers. It is due to your hard work that this all came together. Thank you. As we move on to 2013, we can still do better. I’m looking forward to great things this year.
~ Roy M. Terry
