Message from the Superintendent

I am excited to be sharing our first electronic newsletter with you. To me, it is all about communication and this is yet another way for us to communicate. Since most of us are driven by our e-mails, spending a great deal of our time each day sending and answering them, perhaps this is an easy way for me to reach you! Please expect to receive our iNews newsletter each month. I will look forward to communicating with you!

Message from the School Board Chair

A major goal of our Governance Team has been establishing two-way communication with all stakeholders. We have provided many such opportunities recently ranging from the Superintendent’s series of Town Hall Meetings to the Legislator's Appreciation Luncheon – and now this new newsletter. I have never been more proud of Collier County Public Schools and the progress we have made in connecting with you. Please visit www.collierschools.com to learn how to interact with us.

Parent Resources

Collier County is offering parents a new online resource available in English and Spanish (and coming soon in Creole) to help their children in school. To learn more visit www.collierschools.com/parents/parentsk12.asp

Read a story to your child. Before you get to the end, ask your child how he/she thinks it will end. Or, if the main character walked through your door today, what would you say to it?

More than 2,000 students and parents attended the school district's recent College Night, where over 97 colleges were represented.

November's Character Education trait is Citizenship

Cadets from Golden Gate High School's JROTC program spent a Saturday cleaning up a canal in Golden Gate City.

Teacher Receives State Recognition

Congratulations to Mike Davis Elementary School teacher Emma Gonzalez, one of only three Hispanic educators in the state of Florida to be honored with the Hispanic Heritage Month Excellence in Education Award.

Governor Visits iTech

Florida Governor Rick Scott recently toured Immokalee Technical Center (iTech).

Collier County is ranked the healthiest county in Florida and our high school graduation rate contributes to that ranking!

Dr. Patton will join other community leaders from the Collier County Health Department, NCH HealthCare System, Physicians’ Regional Medical Center, the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, and several community agencies in the “2011 Sustaining Excellence Conference” to be held on November 17th. This collaborative community effort is credited with achieving the number one ranking a second year in a row. The impact of education on the county’s health outcomes will be among the topics of discussion at the conference.

George Montefalcone, or “Monte” as he is fondly known is responsible for recruiting and arranging transportation for over 75 volunteers to our Immokalee schools.

Not only has he personally worked with students in several grade levels, he has worked hard in the community to attain school supplies, holiday gifts and other items needed by our students and families. He is known to bring “treats” for the classes he works with when special occasions come around.

Thank you to our volunteers like Monte who spend their time and talents giving to our students!
