Coach Kramer is in his twenty first year of teaching and coaching, and his tenth year at Naples High School. Coach Kramer holds a Bachelors degree in Health and Physical Education from Liberty Univeristy (Lynchburg, VA), a Masters degree in Computer Science Education from Nova Southeastern University (Ft. Lauderdale, FL), and a Masters degree in Guidance and Counseling from St. Thomas University (Miami, FL).

HOPE (1506310) is a one credit course required for graduation in the State of Florida.  This new course integrates the former Health curriculum with the former Personal Fitness curriculum.  This course will contain but not be limited to the following:  the three energy systems of the body, time management, specific ways to stress the aerobic, lactic acid, and ATP-PC systems, the effects of diet, sleep, and stress on fitness, goal-setting, effects of attitude on fitness, the rewards of a lifestyle which holds fitness as a key element, stress management, coping skills, interpersonal communication, communication, relationships, sportsmanship, disease prevention and control, risk factor assessments, communicable and non-communicable diseases such as HIV/AIDs, STDs, heart disease, diabetes, cancers, asthma, tobacco, alcohol, and other drug use and abuse.

The text for this course is Health.  Students will be graded on bookwork /tests, and on participation in fitness activities, with half of the grade coming from the bookwork/tests and half coming from the participation in fitness activities. In order to participate, students must dress out every day that this class is doing fitness activities.  Each student is excused one “no dress” during each grading period.  Each additional “no dress” will result in one letter grade drop.  Each student must be dressed in a complete NHS uniform in order to participate in the activity of the day; this includes proper athletic shoes. 

Students who are excused from participation because of illness or injury must have a signed statement from their parent and/or doctor.  To earn credit, they will still be required to dress out, but will be given an alternate assignment for the day.  Any student who cannot participate in PE for more than three days must have a signed doctor’s note in order to earn credit.  These students may be required to do alternate assignments.

Progress reports and course grades will be issued in accordance with the calendar prescribed by Collier County Public Schools.

3. Raise your hand and wait to be recognized when the teacher is talking.

Specially Designed P.E. (7915010) is a one-half credit elective course in the State of Florida.  This course will contain aerobic and anaerobic activities and games which are modified to enable each student to participate fully.

Participation
Students will dress out in their classroom and walk with teacher aides to the blue gym each day.  At the conclusion of class, the students will be walked back to the classroom to change back into their school clothes.  Students who are excused from participation because of illness or injury must have a signed statement from their parent and/or doctor. 

Grading
Progress reports and course grades will be issued in accordance with the calendar prescribed by Collier County Public Schools.

• Personal, Career, and School Development Skills (0500500, 0500510, 0500520, 0500530) are one credit elective courses, which fulfill elective requirements for standard diploma completion. 

• The purposes of these courses is to provide students with opportunities to acquire knowledge of goal setting, time management, communication, personal responsibility and accountability, study strategies, problem solving, team building, peer pressure, conflict resolution, effective leadership, reading comprehension strategies, cooperative learning, test preparation, NCAA Clearinghouse completion, college and career research and assessment, with an overall goal of improving attitudes and
behaviors towards learning, self, school and community.

• Grades will be computed based on participation, essays, written assignments, weekly planner checks, and weekly flash card checks.

• Progress reports and course grades will be issued in accordance with the calendar prescribed by Collier County Public Schools.

Weight Training/Individual and Dual Sports

• Beginning Weight Training (1501340), Intermediate Weight Training (1501350), Advanced Weight Training (1501360), Individual and Dual Sports I (1502410), and Individual and Dual Sports II (1502420), are one-half credit elective courses which fulfill the additional Physical Education requirement for standard diploma completion for the class of 2003 and beyond.

• The purposes of these courses is to provide students with opportunities to acquire knowledge and skills in weight training that may be used in physical fitness pursuits today as well as later in life, improve muscular strength and endurance, and enhance body image.  The content will include, but not be limited to, knowledge of the importance of muscular strength and endurance, skeletal muscles, knowledge and application of biomechanical and physiological principals to improve and maintain muscular strength and endurance, knowledge of sound nutritional practices related to weight training; knowledge of safety practices related to weight training, and knowledge of consumer issues related to weight training.

• Grades will be computed based on participation, skill tests, and a written final exam. In order to participate, students must dress out every day.  Each student is excused one “no dress” during each grading period.  Each additional “no dress” will result in one letter grade drop.  Each student must be dressed in a complete NHS uniform in order to participate in the activity of the day; this includes proper athletic shoes.

2. All students must use the lock provided by the PE teacher.  Any other lock used will be cut off.
3. The Physical Education department at Naples High School is not responsible for lost or stolen items.  Each student is responsible for securing all of their personal items in their locker.  Please do not bring large sums of money, jewelry, heirlooms, or valuables into the locker room.
4. Lockers are not to be abused.  Any student caught vandalizing lockers will be suspended from school.  Destruction of school property is a legal offense, and will be reported to Collier County Sheriff’s Deputies.
5. Any student caught stealing in the locker room will be suspended from school.

Physical Plant
1. There is no gum, food, candy, or drinks allowed in the gym.  Water fountains are available.
2. Any student found to be hanging on the nets or rims will be given a referral.
3. Any student damaging or misusing P.E. equipment will be given a referral.
4. All students must stay off of the wood floor, unless dressed out and participating in class.

Excused Absences
1. Students who are excused from participation because of illness or injury must have a signed statement from their parent and/or doctor.  They will still be required to dress out, but will be given an alternate assignment for the day.
2. Any student who cannot participate in PE for a period of three or more days must have a signed doctor’s note.  These students will be required to do alternate assignments.

Roll Call Procedures
1. All students will dress out and report to the blue gym or weight room.
2. Class begins promptly five minutes after the last bell rings, and will be dismissed in time for showers.
3. At the conclusion of class, students are not to leave the designated area until the dismissal bell rings.

Grading
