I have been a Special Education teacher for 28 years. I have taught in Ohio and Jamaica. I moved to Naples in 1987 and taught at Immokalee Middle School for 13 years where I taught Language Arts and Learning Strategies (SLD classes) for two years, Language Arts and Social Studies (EMH classes) for two years, then self-contained TMH. I taught 4 years at Barron Collier High School and three years at Naples High School.
I hold a Masters Degree in Varying Exceptionalities from Nova Southeastern University.

Life Skills Reading:
Syllabus: Reading is individualized based on ability and IEP goals. The following, dependent on student will be addressed:
Reading
Recognition of basic safety, community and personal information words.
Understanding the meaning (comprehension) of the above.
Introduction of basic reading concepts and strategies.
Comprehension of reading passages and answering questions related to the story.Writing
All students will, to the best of their ability, learn to correctly fill out forms requesting personal information.
Students will be expected to form letters and words, using correct letter formation, size, spacing, capitalization, and punctuation to the best of their ability.Social/Communications
Syllabus:
Learn and demonstrate basic social skills needed for home, school, community, and work environments.
Health and hygiene
Learn and understand conflict resolution.Math
Syllabus: Math is individualized, based on IEP goals. The following, dependent on student will be addressed:
Concept of numbers and number-object correspondence
Concepts of addition and subtraction
Concept of time, including telling time, days/weeks/months/year/seasons.
Real life money skills
Use of calculatorClassroom, Homework and Attendance Policies:
Grades are determined by behavior, effort, and accuracy of assignments (based on IEP goals and objectives. Homework is due the next day in order to receive credit. Daily attendance is required since much of our daily work may be oral or an activity that cannot be made up.
Behavior:
All students are expected to follow all classroom and school rules.
Rewards:
* Students earn classroom cash for each assignment completed correctly. Students may trade their cash for items in the classroom store.
*All students receive points each class for following classroom rules and on Friday can earn Fun Friday for the last hour of the day.Links:
