Personal Information: I have been teaching Art since 1986. I began in Iowa where I taught for 2 years and then I began teaching in Naples, Florida in 1989. Before joining Naples High (the best school in the world!) I was teaching art in the elementary schools. I am finding that your kids have grown into nice young adults that I had the pleasure of working with when they were much younger. I graduated with my Bachelor of Science in Art Education from Iowa State University in 1985 and earned my Masters in Art Education from Florida International University in 1998. I am also involved with Gator’s Galore, Chalk Art, and Wet Paint events that take place in Naples.
Classroom, Homework and Attendance Policies:
My classroom is set with a sharing type atmosphere. We share table
space as well as tools. All students are required to clean up after themselves
as well as do the jobs that will be assigned to them in the classroom.
There are times when they will need to bring in supplies to aid them in
the course. Students are required to have their planners in order to leave
the classroom. Students must show respect for themselves, others around
them, and all students’ work, tools, and space. I expect all students to
be creative in their work. In other words I want them to create a piece
of art that is theirs and not something that one can buy in a store…it
should stand out….just like each student does. Each student has their own
style and in my class they will find it and show it and allow it to grow.
Homework will be given periodically. The students
will be writing (writing…. Not typing!) reports on subjects given to them
throughout the course. They may also be asked to bring in drawings assigned
to them throughout the course.
Attendance! Attendance is very important! I tell
my students that the best way to assure them passing a class is to always
show up! Sometimes students will be absent and that is understandable.
When they return they must bring in the admit that will be issued to them
in the front office. If they have no admit they will be asked to get one.
This takes more time away from their work time and it can also lead to
a detention. Students must also be on time! One minute late is still late!
Unfortunately the penalty for that is a referral. Habits are made, both
good and bad, so let’s get in the good habit of arriving on time!
