Attended Penn State, La Universidad de Autónoma de Guadalajara, Mexico and received BA in Spanish Education from Lycoming College in Williansport, Pennsylvania.

Spanish II Honors and Spanish III Honors

Syllabus:

Spanish II Honors
Prerequisite:  Successful completion (C or better) of Spanish I
Spanish II Honors is an elective course, recommended for college bound students.  This curse will neet the Florida Academic Scholars Program and the Laureate Program requirements.
Text:  Buen Viaje 2 (review lessons A-G and chapters 1-7.), and its components:  workbook, audio tapes, video tapes, and Ventanas 2, a supplemental reader.

Grades: Student grades will be the result of regular  tests, quizzes, weekly writing assignments, homework and projects.  Students always have access to their grades and progress in class.  A  computer printout of grades will be available upon request.

Course Content: The purpose of this course is to master and expand the skills previously acquired by the student in Spanish 1.  The content will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Expansion of the preciously acquired listening and oral skills.
  • Increased emphasis on reading and writing.
  • A cultural survey of Spanish-speaking people.
  • Spanish 3 Honors
    Prerequisite:  Successful completion (C or above) of Spanish 2 Honors

    Spanish 3 Honors is an elective course recommended for college bound students.  This course will meet the Florida Academic Scholars Program and Laureate Program requirements.  With the prevalence of spoken Spanish so evident in southwest Florida, This is very important skill, not only in terms of communication, but also in terms of job opportunities and high-quality university entrance requirements.  This course will help form a firm foundation upon which the students will be well prepared to continue into Spanish 4 and Spanish 5/Advanced Placement Spanish.

    Text: Spanish for Mastery 3 and its accompanying workbook and audio/video program; Spanish Practice and Testing, a listening, reading, writing and speaking practice text; Ventanas Dos, a supplemental reader.

    During the school term, the student will be expanding upon previously acquired skills in all areas of communication, with an emphasis on increased vocabulary and the fine-tuning of grammatical concepts.  Selected reading selections, regular writing and speaking assignments, as well as the PBS video series “Destinos”, will be used to enhance the curriculum and expand cultural awareness of the Hispanic countries.

    Grades:  Student grades will be the result of regular tests, quizzes, writing and speaking assignments and homework.  Students always have access to their grades.

    89-80   B
    79-70   C
    69-60   D
    59-0     F

    Classroom, Homework and Attendance Policies:

    1. A  notebook must be kept for  class.
    2. Any work missed due to an unexcused absence results in a zero.
    3. It is the student’s responsibility to inquire about any work missed due to an excused or validated absence.  The student will have two days for each day absent to make up assignments or tests.
    4. Quizzes and exams will be announced beforehand.  Absence on the day before a scheduled test will NOT excuse the student from taking the test with the rest of the class.  Some pop quizzes will be given.
    5. Courtesy will be required at all times.  Raise your hand to ask or answer a question unless group responses are in effect.
    6. Be in your seat and prepared by the late bell.
    7. Bring your book, notebook, writing materials fand student planner to class daily.  Your student planner contains your tardy card and hall pass.  A detention will be assigned if the student comes unprepared.
    8. NO personal grooming, i.e. combing or brushing hair, nail care, make-up, etc. shall be done in class.
    9. DO NOT put  your head down or sleep in class.
    10. DO NOT do work for other classes or write letters in class.
    11. Only bottled water is permitted in class.
    12. Use your student planner to record assignments and test dates and to refer to school rules.
    13. All other school rules apply in the classroom.
