NHS SOFTBALL COACH HONORED

Naples High School Head Softball Coach Robert Iamurri has been selected by the National High School Coaches Association (NHSCA) as the National High School Softball Coach of the Year for 2010. This is a tremendous honor for Coach Iamurri, Naples High School and the Naples community.
Congratulations Robert!!

ATTENTION HIGH SCHOOL JUNIOR ATHLETES

Now is the time for college-bound student-athletes in the junior class to register with the NCAA Eligibility Center if they plan on participating in college athletics.  Early registration promotes positive planning and involvement, bypasses the last-minute rush and helps college-bound student-athletes avoid issues that may delay their academic and amateur certifications.  The registration process is easy and can be done by:

  1. Logging on to the Eligibility Center's new Web site at www.eligibilitycenter.org;
  2. Selecting the “Fall 2010 or After” icon;
  3. Selecting the “New Account” tab at the top of the screen; and
  4. Beginning the registration process.

As a reminder as a college-bound student-athlete you need to apply to the college or university they are interested in attending.  Some student-athletes think that because they are being recruited or because they have registered with the Eligibility Center, they do not need to apply for admission.  Be advised that athletics eligibility and admission to a college or university are two separate processes and that both need to be completed.

OWN A PIECE OF GOLDEN EAGLE HISTORY

The “original” Naples High School gymnasium opened its doors (along with the rest of the new high school) in the fall of 1960. Forty nine years later, in the summer of 2009, a new state-of-the art gymnasium replaced the original one, and the “old” gym was demolished and now is gone forever.  Although that “old” gym is gone, many of the memories that were made there (basketball, volleyball, wrestling, high school dances and even graduations…) will last a lifetime.

The Eagles’ All-Sports Booster Club is now offering everyone a limited time opportunity to  recapture a tangible piece of those memories… in the form of an engraved wooden plank from the original Naples High School gymnasium floor. Each 12” X 2” plank of wood is engraved like the picture below:

If you would like to purchase one or more of these pieces of Naples High School history, you can do so one of two ways. They will be available for sale at all home varsity football games this fall, and they will be on sale while supplies last, in the Naples High School athletic office, located in Building One at NHS.

The cost is $20.00 each. Proceeds from this fundraiser will benefit ALL sports at Naples High School. If you have questions or if you would like to place your order via e-mail, please contact Trish Hendry (athletic department assistant) at HendryPa@collier.k12.fl.us.
