Project Graduation Update
--updated 05/02/08
Dear NHS Parents & Staff,
I'm still in shock that May is a day away! The 2008 school year is coming to an end so very quickly. With our NHS graduates on our minds, Project Graduation has a grand and safe celebration planned for them at the YMCA, from 11pm to 4am on May 23rd! I'd like to thank all of the volunteers who have committed to helping with PG this year in so many different ways :) I have a list of the dates in May that will be our final preparations for Project Graduation. Please check you calendar and see if you are available to help in any of the following areas. I would love to encourage underclassmen parents to get involved with PG, so they can relax and enjoy when their own student(s) becomes a senior. Most of the email addresses that I have are senior parents or staff members, so please feel free to forward this email to parents that you know would like to get involved at NHS in a fun and productive way.
Here are dates we will need assistance:
** Tuesday, May 13th, Wednesday, May 14th, Thursday, May 15th & Friday, May 16th during lunch hour from 11:30 to 12:30, in the school store (next to cafeteria). We will need 3 to 4 volunteers for each lunch time slot :)
** May 22nd, is the last day, in the Auditorium immediately following graduation practice (approximately 10:00am). For parents of graduates, this is the final day for your senior to purchase his/her PG T-shirt. No PG shirts will be available from NHS or the YMCA on May 23rd. We will need 4 to 6 volunteers for this final date, due to most students wait until the last moment to purchase their shirts :)
** May 19th, will be the day we will organize the prizes for PG. We will meet at the U-Store-It on Naples Blvd. at 12:00, (behind Home Depot) and we will work until we are finished. This is the day that we organize and numerically tag all of the prizes that have been collected from all of the participating high schools by donations. This day goes very smoothly and organized with approximately 6 volunteers :)
** On Friday, May 23rd from 2pm to 4pm, we will need 4 to 6 volunteers to set up prizes and decorate the Prize Room with balloons. We will meet in the Aerobic room at the YMCA. All supplies will be there and ready to go :)
Please let me know by phone or email if one or more of these dates are good for you.
We have 27 parent/staff volunteers that have signed up to help during the night of PG! I thank each one of you and we will have a fun night working together. I still have approximately 4 volunteer shirts available if anyone is still thinking of joining our team :) No volunteers will be admitted into the YMCA without a NHS volunteer shirt due to safety reasons. The CC Sheriff's Dept. and the Naples Police Dept. take the safety of our students very seriously!
I have one more thing to ask you as NHS supporters :) We are still in need of prizes to meet our target goal for NHS. We have met our financial sponsorship goals, but have not collected enough prizes (55). If you are able to purchase a prize(s) or solicit some donated prizes, it would help tremendously.
Here is an idea list, but please feel free to be creative: Gift Cards, blenders, popcorn poppers, computers, cameras, microwaves, coffee pots, stereo/DVD players, iPods, TV sets, household items such as desk lamps, dishes, stationary supplies, telephones, alarm clocks, calculators, dorm supplies, towel sets, irons, car supplies, gas cards, etc. Try to think of items your student would love to have :) I have purchased items that go on sale, which allows me to collect more prizes.
If you are able to help with prizes, please let me know and I will make arrangements to collect the prizes and deliver them to the storage unit :)
Thank you for your patience, I know this is long. We are winding down and trying to tie up the loose ends :) It's going to be a great night for our graduates and I'm looking forward to another fun party! The volunteers have a pretty good time too!!
Sincerely,
Lisa Gursoy
