Students and parents need to be aware of the importance of good grooming and its effect upon the learning environment.  Good taste is knowing where and when to wear the appropriate clothing and accessories.  Since the home provides the funds, guidance and upkeep of the student’s clothing worn in school, it is the responsibility of the parent to see that grooming reflects the modesty and good taste expected in school.  The following dress and grooming requirements are to be followed by all students as may be reasonably determined by the principal.  Other requirements may be made to avoid disruption of the educational process.

Students should regard school as their place of work and should dress appropriately.
Generally, dress should exhibit good taste, good sense, cleanliness and modesty.  Too tight clothing is not allowed and unacceptable.

  1. Shoes shall be worn at all times as described in the    uniform dress code.  Shoes must have a closed-in toe and heel.  Boots, high heels, flip flops, sandals, slippers, or shoes with rollers or wheels are some examples, but not all-inclusive, of foot coverings that are not allowed and may not be worn.  Fishnet stockings are not allowed.
  2. Tops:  Any solid color is allowed.  Shirts must have 2 or 3 buttons only.  Any shirt with 4 buttons or more, (i.e., 6 buttons) is in violation of the dress code and may not be worn. Halter tops, tube tops, short shorts, muscle shirts, tank tops, midriff or backless shirts and blouses shall not be worn. Tops must be three inches below the waistband or remain tucked-in in order that the midriff area is not exposed.  Sweaters/Sweatshirts without a hood or pockets may be worn provided they are the appropriate length and do not contain any suggestive or inflammatory writing.  A sweater or sweatshirt worn over an appropriate shirt should be as long or longer as the under-lying shirt.  Long sleeved shirts may not be worn under short sleeved shirts. No bare skin should be exposed at the waist or abdomen area.  Clothing must cover the chest area to ensure that cleavage is not exposed.
  3. Bottoms:  Any solid color is allowed.  Skirts, sweatpants, jeans and athletic shorts are examples, but not all-inclusive of bottoms that are inappropriate and may not be worn.  In addition, pants with frayed edges or holes are not allowed.
  4. Hair shall be clean and neatly groomed.  Students may not wear unnatural hair colors to school.  Hair dye is not appropriate or allowed.  Hair will not affect vision.
  5. Hats or other head coverings shall not be worn in the school except as approved by the administrative team.  Exceptions will be made for religious purposes.  Caps, headgear, headbands, bandanas or sunglasses are not permitted inside the school.
  6. Intentionally altered clothing or unbuttoned and ill-fitted garments are not acceptable.  Ill-fitted garments include; but are not limited to, garments that are too small or too large are not allowed.  Transparent, mesh or see-through clothing may not be worn. Skin tight clothing is not allowed.  Clothing must be completely buckled, belted, buttoned or fastened.  Cut or frayed clothing with holes or patched holes is not allowed.
  7. Clothing shall be free of inflammatory, suggestive, or other inappropriate writing, advertisement or artwork.  Any clothing that resembles jeans or a jean like material is not allowed.
  8. The wearing or display of flags on our campuses has historically and currently caused dissension along with a potentially unsafe and hostile learning environment for our students.  In an effort to provide safe schools and prevent potential disruption, the following flags are the only ones that may be displayed and/or worn on Collier County Public Schools campuses and at off campus, school-related activities:  (1)  The United States and POW/MIA flags; (2)  The State of Florida flag; and, (3)  official school flags.  In addition, any related symbols may not be displayed or worn on campus and at off campus school-related activities.  Exceptions to this rule may be made for national flags on special occasions or in designated areas consistent with the learning objectives of the district and at the discretion of the principal.
  9. Body adornment (i.e., adornments which pierce flesh), in/on any visible body part other than the ears is not allowed and shall not be worn.  Tattoos, stickers or written messages on exposed body parts are not allowed.  Pierced noses and tongues are not appropriate and not allowed at school.
  10. The length of shorts shall reflect modesty and good taste and be monitored by regulations enforced at each school.  If a student’s fingertips touch skin when the arms are held straight at the sides, then the clothing item is too short and may not be worn.
  11. Costumes, sleepwear or other clothing/adornment that creates a distraction is not permitted.  No writing is allowed on the seat of shorts or pants.  No P.E. clothes are to be worn to other classes.  PE clothes may not be used to correct a dress code violation unless approved by administration.
  12. Shorts/pants must be fitted or cinched so as not to slip.
  13. Gang clothing, symbols, or other items associated with gangs may not be worn, displayed or carried.

When a student is referred to the office for a dress code violation, he/she must correct the violation or remain in ISS for the remainder of the day.  In addition, he/she will receive the following *disciplinary consequences:
