  • Immokalee High School announces James Delgado as the new Varsity Head Football Coach.

Immokalee High School is proud to announce James Delgado is our new varsity head football coach.  Mr. Delgado comes to the Indians from Riverdale High School in Lee County, where two years ago he led the Raiders to a 10-1 record and the 7A District 12 Championship.  Previously, at Apopka High, he helped lead an offense that set state records for points and rushing yards.  As a coach at Apopka he competed for three 8A State Championships, winning in 2012 and 2014.  Mr. Delgado has a proven record of developing players into high school All-Americans and blue chip college prospects.  His pipeline of established relationships with college coaches will certainly benefit our students as they consider options beyond graduation.  As a player with Apopka High School, near Orlando, Delgado won the 2001 State Championship.  He went on to become team captain as an offensive lineman at Webber International University. After receiving his bachelor’s degree in finance, Delgado served the university as a football coach and recruiter while at the same time earning a master’s degree in sports management.

As part of the A-rated Collier County Public Schools, Immokalee High School has a rich tradition in academic and athletic excellence.  “Our search committee chose Coach Delgado because of his proven record of leading, instilling a mindset of excellence, and emphasis on team building,” added Immokalee High Principal Clara Calderon.

Mr. Delgado is excited to meet students, build a strong team culture, and looks forward to spring workouts.  “We are going to write the next chapter of excellence for Immokalee High School. I ask for the community’s support as we build back this program to a championship level, which is definitely possible because of the resources, talent, and passion that exists in Immokalee,” stated Coach Delgado.

We welcome Mr. Delgado and his wife, Jessi, to the Immokalee High family!

Immokalee High is currently independent but plans on returning to the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA).  The Indians won the 2004 2A State Championship in football.  In 2012, Immokalee High excelled to 5A State Runner-up.  The Indians claimed regional football championships in 2000, 2003, and 2017.
