This Academy is based on the book, Gadget Wars by Betsy Duffey. In the story, Kelly, a third grader, likes to invent all kinds of gadgets. When Albert, another inventor, shows up in her class, Kelly feels challenged. Kelly and Albert try to outdo each other by using all their gadgets in a war against each other. In Gadget Wars, Academy students respond to literature through creative planning and constructing of makeshift gadgets and contraptions as well as formulating concoctions that can be used for pranks. Students are motivated, engaged, and competitive in this fun Academy for 3rd grade students!
