Below are the 2015-2024 Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) Course Descriptions for Middle School Science.
These links to Cpalms.org (FLDOE) provide access to the standards taught in each course along with resources related to the standards taught in each course. Students have Single Sign On (SSO) through their Canvas Resources. Parents can view the course standards and supplemental DOE approved lessons on this site.
Middle school science courses in Florida utilize the 2008 Next Generation Sunshine State Standards (NGSSS). Advanced courses include standards from high school in addition to more rigorous curriculum and expectations.Students will take the FLDOE Statewide Science Assessment (SSA) at the end of their 8th grade year. This test covers material from 6th, 7th and 8th grade sciences. How they perform on this assessment will dictate how they are placed in high school science courses. Their next and last state assessment in science will be at their completion of Biology for the End of Course (EOC) assessment.
