Application for Instructional Materials Review Work Group: Spanish Language
Collier County Public Schools will soon begin the process of reviewing instructional materials for Spanish Language courses with the goal of making a recommendation for adoption during the 2019-20 school year. The new instructional materials will be utilized beginning in 2020-21. The work group will consist of parent/community representatives, school and district administrators, teachers, and academic coaches.
Work Group Membership
The work group will conduct the instructional materials review process in alignment to state standards using objective criteria (rubrics), and will make an adoption recommendation to the Board based upon the objective evidence gathered during the process.
Responsibilities of the Work Group Representatives:
- Attend all scheduled meetings. To provide feedback on instructional materials considered for adoption, work group members must attend at least three out of the four or two out of the three meetings if only three meetings are needed
- Serve as a communication link to the community
- Assist in reviewing instructional materials using objective criteria (rubrics)
All meetings will be held at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Administrative Center, 5775 Osceola Trail, Naples, FL 34109.
- October 21, 2019 from 8:30 m. – 3:30 p.m.
- November 14, 2019 from 8:30 m. – 3:30 p.m.
- December 16, 2019 from 8:30 m. – 3:30 p.m.
How to Apply:
For this work group, it is preferred that reviewers have a working knowledge of both the written and spoken forms of the Spanish Language. Board Policy 2520 states: expertise shall be understood to mean that a person serving on a work group has developed a skill and/or knowledge in the textbook adoption subject or content area based upon education and experience that would enable such a person to be able to form an opinion in the subject or content area that would assist in the work group’s review.
It is important that the Instructional Materials Selection Work Group represents a wide range of skills, knowledge, experience, needs and interests. The time commitment will be a minimum of 20-32 hours of face-to-face meeting time with additional time required outside the meetings to review instructional materials. We expect to hold three (3) meetings to review and recommend the new materials.
