    About CME

The Center for Manufacturing Excellence, an extension campus of Immokalee Technical College, is a cutting edge training facility established to deliver the knowledge and skills students need for a successful career in today’s manufacturing field. CME is a collaborative training facility between Collier County Public Schools, the Naples Chamber of Commerce, and local manufacturing leaders. CME was established through the demand to supply local industries with skilled workers in all areas within the manufacturing field, such as Machining, Mechatronics, CNC operations, and advanced machining and manufacturing. Currently, CME offers a full-time Post-Secondary Machining Technology course, short-term targeted training, employability skills, and customized training developed to enhance the skills of current or potential employees.

Machining Technologies (J200100) is a Florida Department of Education developed and approved curriculum as a State Certified Program. The program consists of 1500 hours of training and is reviewed approximately every other year.
We go one step further in ensuring the relevance of the competencies of this program by having our business partners critique and advise our instructors on what is most relevant within the State Frameworks. Students master the following occupational completion points within the program:

    • OCP A: Machinist Helper
    • OCP B: Machinist Operator
    • OCP C: Machinist Setup Operator
    • OCP D: Machinist

In addition to our close working relationship with local business partners, we also work very closely with the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS). NIMS was formed in 1995 to develop and maintain a globally competitive American workforce. Today, NIMS is the industry standard for training and skill validation within precision manufacturing. NIMS has a stakeholder base of over 6,000 metalworking companies in partnership with five major industry trade associations. In addition to earning a certificate of completion in Machining Technologies from the college, we train students to achieve NIMS industry recognized credentials which include the following:

    • Measurement, Materials and Safety
    • Job Planning, Benchwork and Layout
    • Drill Press I
