EXCEPTIONALITY: Specific Learning Disabilities, SLD
- Specific Learning Disabilities may affect the way a student receives, processes, or expresses information
- The skills most often affected are reading, writing, listening, speaking, reasoning, and math
- Weaker academic achievement, particularly in reading, written language, and math, is perhaps the most fundamental characteristic of SLD
- Significant deficits often exist in memory, metacognition, and social skills as well
- Collier County Public Schools provides support for students with SLD through the services of an ESE certified teacher in addition to the student’s classroom teacher
- An Individual Education Plan, IEP, is created for students with SLD, outlining all the services, accommodations, and annual goals for the student
