• EXCEPTIONALITY: Specific Learning Disabilities, SLD

    • Specific Learning Disabilities may affect the way a student receives, processes, or expresses information
    • The skills most often affected are reading, writing, listening, speaking, reasoning, and math
    • Weaker academic achievement, particularly in reading, written language, and math, is perhaps the most fundamental characteristic of SLD
    • Significant deficits often exist in memory, metacognition, and social skills as well
    • Collier County Public Schools provides support for students with SLD through the services of an ESE certified teacher in addition to the student’s classroom teacher
    • An Individual Education Plan, IEP, is created for students with SLD, outlining all the services, accommodations, and annual goals for the student
