The Cambridge AICE program at Golden Gate High School emphasizes the importance of critical thinking skills and communication in today’s global world. Worldwide, many universities recognize the AICE Diploma for advanced standing at the university level and may award up to 45 hours of college credit for achieving the AICE Diploma. The expansion of the Cambridge AICE program allows Collier County Public School students the opportunity to achieve the prestigious AICE Diploma. This rigorous academic and accelerated program of study is offered solely through the University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE), a division of the University of Cambridge in Cambridge, England. The University of Cambridge is consistently ranked as one of the top 5 academic universities in the world.

Cambridge Assessment was established over 150 years ago by the University of Cambridge. Cambridge International Exams (CIE), part of Cambridge Assessment, operates, manages and carries out leading-edge and operational research on assessment in education. CIE is the world’s largest provider of international education programs and qualifications for 5 to 19 year olds. Over 9,000 schools in 160 countries offer the Cambridge AICE Program. The AICE Diploma was first introduced to Florida in 1995. While the Cambridge Program has a larger educational presence globally it is still relatively new in the U.S.

As of 2012, Collier County Public Schools has six approved Cambridge centers. All of the six centers offer the Cambridge International General Certification of Secondary Education (IGCSE), known in Florida as Pre-AICE, and the Cambridge Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE) Diploma Programs.

What is AICE?
The Advanced International Certificate of Education program (AICE) is an innovative and accelerated method of academic study offered solely through the Cambridge International Examinations (CIE), a division of the University of Cambridge in Cambridge, England--an institution consistently ranked as one of the top five academic universities in the world. AICE provides a flexible, broad-based curriculum that is offered worldwide at schools and colleges in over 161 countries. For over 170 years the prestigious University of Cambridge has been setting worldwide curriculum standards through their examinations.

Why are AICE courses and the AICE Diploma important?
American universities have responded enthusiastically to AICE. The Florida Legislature has identified AICE as a graduation option and acceleration mechanism through which students can be awarded up to 45 hours of college credit at all public universities and colleges in Florida. Students earning the AICE Diploma currently qualify for the maximum Florida Academic Scholars tuition scholarship, and students completing the curriculum (without earning the diploma) may earn the Florida Medallion Scholars tuition award.

Why should students enroll in AICE courses?
The AICE program of study at Golden Gate High School offers students one of the most demanding and rigorous college preparatory programs in the world. After completing at least one course in each of three academic areas, students have the flexibility to choose a course of study that best meets their abilities and interests. Students also have the option of taking AICE courses and their subsequent exams in order to earn college credits without applying for the AICE Diploma. Regardless of the option chosen, enrollment in these rigorous courses will benefit GGHS students in the college application process.
