Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973
Student Support Services facilitates the implementation of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to ensure that all students with disabilities receive an appropriate education.
Pursuant to Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and its implementing regulations ("Section 504"), no otherwise qualified individual with a disability shall, solely by reason of his/her disability, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance. The School Board does not discriminate in admission or access to, participation in, or treatment, or employment in, its programs or activities. As such, the Board's policies and practices will not discriminate against employees and students with disabilities, will provide equal opportunity for employment, and will make accessible to qualified individuals with disabilities its facilities, programs, and activities. No discrimination will be knowingly permitted against any individual with a disability on the sole basis of that disability in any of the programs, activities, policies, and/or practices in the District.
McKay Scholarship Program for Students with Disabilities
A parent of an eligible student with a disability may choose to attend a participating private school, an adjacent district public school, or transfer their student to another public school within Collier County Public Schools that provides the services identified in the student’s individual educational plan (IEP) or 504 accommodation plan. Effective July 28, 2015, the Rule 6A-6.0970, F.A.C. was revised to remove McKay Scholarship school capacity restrictions for another public school choice within the district.
Parents may file intent to participate in the McKay Scholarship Program on the www.floridaschoolchoice.org website. If selecting another public school choice within our school district, parents must then submit an application to the Office of Student Relations by clicking here. If questions about the McKay Scholarship Program, parents may contact the Office of Independent Education and Parental Choice at 1-800-447-1636, or the school district Department of Exceptional Education and Student Support Services at 1-239-377-0108.
