  • Mental health and well-being include our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make everyday choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood.

Mental health problems are common and affect everyone regardless of culture, race, ethnicity or gender. Half of all mental health disorders begin before a person turns 14 years old, and three-quarters of mental health disorders begin before age 24.

Unfortunately, less than 20% of children and adolescents with diagnosable mental health problems receive the treatment they need. Early mental health support can help a child before problems interfere with other developmental needs.
