Guest Teacher Process & Requirements

When it becomes necessary to employ instructional personnel on a temporary basis, such employment is on a limited-time basis for the purpose of filling a vacancy for which a regular employee cannot be found, or to perform some task of a temporary nature. This employment shall end at the close of the school term, at the end of the fiscal year, or at the time when the temporary task is completed.

Guest teachers are required to be twenty (20) years of age or older and hold an associate degree or higher.
- hold an Associates (AA) degree or an equivalent of sixty (60) college/university credit hours, or
- complete at least one (1) year of post-secondary education or an equivalent of thirty (30) college/university credit hours and one (1) year of professional childcare experience (such as in-home nanny, afterschool care program, pre-school staff, or any similar childcare program or agency).

To be considered for a long term Guest Teacher position, the Guest Teacher must hold one of the following (listed in order of preference):

Selected applicants will receive an email from the Guest Teacher/Assistant Program Specialist to schedule an interview

References will be gathered from the current and most recent supervisors

It is strongly recommend that all applicants be in communication with their current and most recent supervisors to regarding the District reference process, as this will expedite onboarding. Please review supervisor name/contact information prior to submission of your online application

Pre-Employment screening appointment is scheduled

Applicants will be informed of the documentation to bring to the appointment

Fingerprinting and drug screening process is completed

Electronic new-hire and onboarding forms and training is completed online.

District badges will be issued to the employee following the completion of the new-hire and onboarding process

Guest teachers are entered into online substitute management system (AESOP) and Canvas

SafeSchools training must be compelted within 30 dyas of new hire

Employees will be asked to completed annual requirements to be eligible to continue as a Guest Teacher for the following school year

Safe School Training (may vary year to year)

Ten (10) or more guest assignments per school year

Attendance at a Safety and Procedure Meetings (fall/spring sessions available)
