Guest Assistant Process and Requirements

  • When it becomes necessary to employ non-instructional personnel on a temporary basis, such employment is on a limited-time basis for the purpose of filling a vacancy for which a regular employee cannot be found, or to perform some task of a temporary nature. This employment shall end at the close of the school term, at the end of the fiscal year, or at the time when the temporary task is completed.

    1. Guest assistants are required to be eighteen (18) years of age or older, have a high school diploma and have passed the Paraprofessional Exam or have 60 or more college credits.
    2. Applicant must have a completed online application, upload a copy of your graduate or undergraduate transcripts of college credits or ParaProfessional exam results. Upon hire, official transcripts will be required.
    3. Once the application is complete, applicants will receive an email notification of their status from the Guest Teacher/Assistant Program Specialist.
    4. Selected candidates will receive an email from the Guest Teacher/Assistant Program Specialist to schedule an interview.
    5. Candidates moving forward in the process must complete EdTrainingCenter and SafeSchools online training.
    6. Applicants will print “Certificate of Completion” documents for all five (5) courses of EdTrainingCenter (20 hours) and three (3) Safe School course certificates and provide to the Guest Teacher/Assistant Program Specialist.
    7. References will be gathered from the current and second most recent supervisors. It is strongly recommend that all applicants ask their current and second most recent supervisors to complete the District reference forms as it will expedite the process.
    8. Fingerprinting and drug screening process is completed.
    9. Applicant is scheduled for upcoming New Hire meeting (New Hire meetings are scheduled approximately every 2-3 weeks).
    10. Applicant must attend two (2) full day trainings:
      1. New hire meeting in the morning. to complete paperwork. Applicants will be informed of the documentation to bring to the meeting. In the afternoon, applicants will attend a training session with District trainers. District badges will be issued at this training session.
      2. Shadow a District classroom assistant for one day.
    11. Guest Assistants are entered into online substitute management system (AESOP).
