Education Majors from Countries Other Than the United States
You will begin the process by applying for a Temporary Certificate, so that you may begin teaching full-time while you complete your remaining certification requirements. Your Statement of Status of Eligibility will provide you with specific and official information about your remaining requirements for the Professional Certificate.
If you completed an education program from an institution outside the United States, you will apply for a Florida Temporary Certificate in your program area. Special information about documenting your educational training will be found under Applicants with Foreign Academic Training.
To begin the process:
- Complete the online application with the Florida Department of Education (DOE) in your bachelor’s or higher degree major/minor.
- Send original credential evaluation report that includes a statement of US degree equivalency and a breakdown of coursework. Photocopies will not be accepted.
- Take the Florida subject area examination in the area/subject you wish to teach.
- When your DOE application is complete, it will be evaluated to determine eligibility for a Florida certificate. The result of that determination will be mailed to you as an Official Statement of Status of Eligibility. The Official Statement of Status of Eligibility will state whether or not “you are eligible” and a list of requirements you must complete to be issued a certificate in Florida. (Determination may take 4-8 weeks.)
- Complete a Collier County Public Schools online application.
- After you have obtained a position with CCPS your fingerprints will be sent to the DOE and the Temporary certificate will be issued. (CCPS will only send fingerprints to the DOE once you have obtained a position within our District.
