Application for HOPE & Personal Fitness Instructional Materials Review Committee
The Collier County Public School District will soon begin the process of reviewing instructional materials for HOPE/Personal Fitness courses with the goal of making a recommendation for adoption during the 2016-17 school year. The new instructional materials will be utilized beginning in 2017-18. The committee will consist of parent/community representatives, school and district administrators, teachers, and academic coaches.
The committee will conduct the instructional materials review process aligned to state standards using objective criteria (rubrics), and will make an adoption recommendation based upon the objective evidence gathered during the process.
Responsibilities of Committee Representatives:
- Attend all scheduled meetings. To vote on the instructional materials you must attend at least three out of the four or two out of the three meetings if only three meetings are needed
- Serve as a communication link to the community
- Assist in reviewing instructional materials using objective criteria (rubrics)
- All meetings will be held at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Administrative Center, 5775 Osceola Trail, Naples, FL 34109.
Dates as follows:
- November 10, 2016 8:30-3:30
- November 29, 2016 8:30-3:30
- December 12, 2016, 8:30-3:30
- January 11, 2017, 8:30-3:30 (if needed)
How to Apply:
For this committee, it is preferred that teachers and administrators for HOPE and Personal Fitness Committee have at least 3 years teaching Health and Physical Education or supervisory experience in the last 10 years in the secondary level; preferably HOPE course instruction or supervision of HOPE instruction. Parent and Community representation could include community partner members from health education awareness and prevention programs, health care educator or related appropriate field monitoring physical, mental and social aspects of health with children over the age of 12. Board policy 2520 states: expertise shall be understood to mean that a person serving on a committee has developed a skill and/or knowledge in the textbook adoption subject or content area based upon education and experience that would enable such a person to be able to form an opinion in the subject or content area that would assist in the committee’s review.
It is important that the Instructional Materials Selection Committee represents a wide range of skills, knowledge, experience, needs and interests. Parents on the committee must have a child currently enrolled in grades 6-12 in the Collier County Public School District and be objective and passionate about student learning in HOPE & Personal Fitness courses.
The time commitment will be a minimum of 12-18 hours of face-to-face meeting time with additional time required outside the meetings to review instructional materials. We expect to hold 3 to 4 meetings to review and recommend the new materials.
