Education Assistant (ParaPro)
Collier Adult Education offers a ParaProfessional program that leverages a learn-by-doing process that allows participants to practice and demonstrate what they are learning about what it means to be a ParaProfessional. Intensive test preparation is also provided in order to prepare for the ParaPro exam, given by ETS.
Interns / Student Teachers
Fingerprint screening is required for any college student requiring 100 hours or more in a school for an observation, field experience, or internship during a single semester. All application requirements must be completed prior to fingerprint screening.
Interns/Student Teachers are required to complete fingerprint screening and be cleared based on the District guidelines used for employees prior to serving as an intern/student teacher in the classroom. A minimum of 72 hours following fingerprinting should be allowed for clearances to be returned. You will receive a CCPS Intern Badge after clearance and payment have been confirmed. Approved interns will receive confirmation once the application requirements have been met. The confirmation e-mail will serve as authorization for fingerprinting.
How to obtain a Temporary Teacher Internship Certificate

STEP 1: Complete Online Application
Create an account and complete the online application.
- Once you arrive at the Quick Start Menu, you will need to select Bureau of Educator Certification (BEC) when asked “What are you applying for?”
- Next, you will select the Temporary Internship Certificate Application from the options in the Choose Application drop-down box. Click the blue “Select” button to begin the application.
STEP 2: Submit Required Documentation
Once you have created your online account and submitted your application, please email TeacherInternshipCertification@fldoe.org for instructions on submitting the following:
- Letter on institution letterhead documenting enrollment in a state-approved teacher preparation program with an in-progress field experience or internship at a public school.
- Official transcript emailed from the registrar.
STEP 3: Take Florida Teacher Certification Examination (FTCE)
The purpose of the Florida Teacher Certification Examinations (FTCE) is to ensure that all teacher candidates demonstrate the necessary content and pedagogical knowledge necessary to effectively instruct students in Florida.
- Florida Teacher Certification Examinations (FTCE) is administered to educators seeking initial certification in the K-12 system.
- Upon completion of the exam, an unofficial score report will be issued.
- The official FTCE score report will be submitted to BEC within four (4) weeks.
Teaching in the Trades
Teaching in the Trades is a program that is designed for career changers and existing educators who have an interest in educating students at all levels (both children and adults) about careers in the trades industries. The goal of the program is to share information about full and part-time teaching opportunities, to educate career changers on the teaching certification process, and how to successfully transition from the “real-world” to the world of trades-education.
Trades teachers are responsible to preparing lesson plans and providing students with relevant real-world, trades oriented, educational experiences using both traditional and distance learning models in order to qualify students for employment and career advancement.

- $57,000 annually (base: first year, 0 experience) to $74,600 (18 years verified experience)
- Degree Supplements: If you hold an advanced degree in your certification area, you may qualify for additional annual supplements:
- Master's: $3,500
- Specialist: $4,000
- Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) in Speech Language Pathology: $2,500

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree → Pass FL Subject Area Exam → Obtain FL Teaching Certificate
Responsibilities
- Fosters student achievement and development.
- Responsible for carrying out the teaching assignment.
- Works in cooperation with the instructional team and/or department chair in the education process.
- Collaborates with colleagues and develops lessons for the purpose of improving instruction and student performance.
- Communicates regularly with parents, administrators, and educational supports.
Special Education Assistant
To recruit and retain highly qualified Special Education teachers, CCPS is developing a Special Education Assistant career development pipeline to build pathways from novice Special Education professional to strong teacher leader within Special Education. ESE Assistants are often encouraged by their building administrator to pursue certification due to their significant instructional experience, knowledge of the district, and interest in becoming a licensed teacher. In addition, Special Education Assistants are more likely to match the racial and linguistic diversity of the K–12 student population.
Starting Salary
- $19.15 / hr

- $.50 ParaPro Exam Certificate
- $.75 Sixty (60) credits earned from an accredited institution
- $1.00 Associate degree from an accredited institution
- $1.50 Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution

Qualifications
- Title I location: 60 college credit hours, Associate’s degree (or higher); or passing score on ParaPro Assessment
- Non-Title I location: High school diploma / GED.
Responsibilities
- Implement the District’s philosophy of education and instructional programs
- Assists the teacher(s) in providing a well-organized, smoothly functioning educational environment in which students with disabilities may take full advantage of the instructional program and available resources.
- Supports the efforts to organize and coordinate the classroom and school-wide programs for students with disabilities
- Works under the direct supervision and in close proximity of a Highly Qualified Teacher.
JROTC Instructor
The U.S. Army Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) is one of the largest character development and citizenship programs for youth in the world. The National Defense Act of 1916 established organized JROTC programs at public and private educational institutions.
- All applicants must be fully certified by U.S. Army Cadet Command (USACC) to teach JROTC
- Applicants must currently be teaching an Army JROTC course or possess an Initial Certification letter from USACC
- Noncommissioned Officers must be retired from the Army in the grades of E-6 through E-9
- Warrant Officers must be retired from the Army in grade W-5
- Commissioned Officers must be retired from the Army in the grades of W-1 through W-5 or O-3 through O-6
