Our Media CenterThe Media Center is arranged for all students to have easy access to their reading levels. We have Rookie Reader books in baskets, leveled readers for beginners, a junior chapter book section and a VIP Lounge. The VIP Lounge contains chapter books that are above a fourth grade reading level. Plus, it has a comfortable spot to read a great book, magazines and enjoy some puzzles and games.
Reading Counts
The program is designed for all students to read books on their level, take a ten question computer based test and earn points upon a passing score. very class rotates through on a weekly basis where each student is recognized for increasing their points. Dog tags are awarded for different point values as they accumulate. Students wear their dog tags with pride!Chester Play House
Our Media Center is unique! We have a puppet show theater for primary grades called Chester’s Playhouse. Shows are based on library books starring Chester and his friends! We bring books to life! That’s not all! We also have a magical pig named Porky who lives in the library and grants wishes. If you whisper a wish into his ear and rub his belly, your wish might come true! Over 500 wishes have been granted so far. But, be careful, don’t make a wish that’s “too big for the pig!”
Star Readers & Prize Tickets
We recognize Star Readers for each class when they come to their scheduled library time. These students are chosen based on criteria such as Reading Logs, 100 Book Challenge, I-Ready and guided reading group progress. Students receive a sticker, prize ticket and can sit in a special chair. Prize tickets can be used for purchasing items in our library store. And, prize tickets are hidden in books too!
