The Accounting Operations program will provide the student with accounting/bookkeeping employment skills. These skills include, but are not limited to: keyboarding; Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, Microsoft PowerPoint (MOS Certification); QuickBooks Certification; IC3 Certification; business math; business ethics; written and oral communication; filing; calculators; sole proprietorship accounting; partnership accounting; merchandising accounting; corporation accounting; and automated accounting.

This program offers a broad foundation of knowledge and skills expanding the traditional role of the Bookkeeper and Accounting Assistant. Students develop bookkeeping principles that emphasize classifying, recording, summarizing numerical data and making computations to compile and keep financial records. When registering, students must register for the complete program.

Students in the Accounting Operations program prepare a portfolio that highlights the skills they learned, in order to prepare them for a challenging career, and a showcase of certifications earned. Students also create a professional resume and letter of application.
There are a variety of projects within the four Occupational Completion Points. Students will need to complete all of the projects in order to satisfy the curriculum requirements for this course.

The equipment and supplies in the business technology classroom are provided to enhance hands-on experiences for students. Included in the lab are 30 Windows PC computers with dual-screens, one HP Laser Printer and one color printer.

OTA0040 - Information Technology Assistant - (150 hours)
This course provides an overview of current business and information systems and trends, and introduces students to the basic skills and foundations required in today’s business environments. Emphasis is placed on developing proficiency with touch keyboarding and fundamental computer applications.

ACO0040 - Accounting Clerk - (300 hours)
This course emphasizes double-entry accounting; methods and principles of recording business transactions; preparation of various documents used in recording income, expenses, acquisition of assets, incurrence of liabilities and changes in equity; preparation of financial statements; voucher systems; cash receipts; petty cash; payroll records; and internal control systems.

ACO0041 - Accounting Associate - (300 hours)
This course continues the application of accounting principles to various entities. The content includes methods for determining the cost of merchandise inventory, general ledger account analysis, the aging process, depreciation, and financial statement interpretation, analysis of transactions, correcting entries and tax forms.

ACO0042 - Accounting Assistant - (150 hours)
This course provides a capstone of accounting principles with the use of commercial accounting software. The content includes the accounting cycle through proprietorships, partnerships and corporate accounting. Other areas of emphasis will include payroll, tax forms and investment management.

Internships
Various businesses and clinics are partners with iTECH’s Business Technology program and some provide excellent internship opportunities for our students. Students are encouraged to research area business, clinics and hospitals to arrange your own specialized internship experience.
Workforce Education Internship Program
Students participate in work-based learning experiences in their field of study outside of the classroom. ITECH has a Workforce Internship Program for those students who need work experience, but do not have an out-of-school job.
Job Placement
Our competent counseling staff provides job postings on a daily basis, with help in resume writing and the interviewing process.

A certificate is awarded to students who successfully complete the program’s competencies and satisfy basic skill requirements in accordance with state guidelines. Students will also have the opportunity to test and earn additional industry and national credentials through the training program.
