What Makes Our Media Center Special?
All students are welcome to come into the Media Center as needed to exchange books, work on projects, complete research, etc. This is called flexible access. We also have scheduled classes to teach students how to use the resources in the media center.
The Avalon morning news program is run by our Awesome Avalon 5th grade students. We have a green screen, TelePrompTer software, and other high tech production equipment. Students help write and produce the show.
We have over 15,000 books in areas such as: biography, non-fiction, books on CD, fiction, early readers, picture books, reference materials, books written in Spanish, and bilingual materials written in Spanish and English. We host a Scholastic Book Fair every year including a Family Night for families to come to purchase reading materials. All profits are used to purchase more books and materials for the media We offer motivational reading programs such as Scholastic Reading Counts and the Sunshine State Young Reader's Award program (SSYRA). Students earn recognition in a variety of ways as they read more books. They must read at least three of the fifteen titles to vote in the SSYRA poll in the spring. Check out the list for the 2021-2022 Sunshine State Readers on our Media Center main page.
