    In careful consultation with FLDOH-Collier and local healthcare experts, risks to students and staff members as we reopen school campuses will be significantly mitigated with the use of masks, wraparound safety glasses, and other sanitization measures.

    Our goal, over time and in consultation with the FLDOH-Collier, would be to loosen protective measures, as appropriate, in schools. At the start of the school year, however, we will be following the advisement of local healthcare experts to ensure a safe and healthy environment for students and staff.

    We know that there will not be one “right” instructional option for all students and families. There is much to consider in this decision-making process, and CCPS has developed four options for this coming school year to differentiate supports.


    For the 2020-21 school year, Collier County Public Schools will provide devices (laptops and iPads) to students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade.

    GRADES 6-12

    • Students will be individually assigned a laptop
    • The laptop will remain with the student throughout their career at CCPS

    GRADES 1-5

    • Students will be assigned a laptop
    • The laptop will be available for students to take home


    • Students will be assigned an iPad
    • The iPad will be available for students to take home
     Collier Connect

    In preparation for the start of the 2020-2021 school year on August 31st, CCPS has developed four instructional models for our CCPS families to choose from. Each option is outlined below and we are asking that you let us know which option you will choose for your student(s). We know that conditions and guidelines are constantly changing, however, the choice for your student will assist the District and your student’s school to finalize plans for the 2020-2021 school year. 


    This option would have your student attending school on campus daily with the following, but not exhaustive, safety precautions, to the greatest extent possible.  With Option 1, you are selecting a daily, on campus model.

    • All students will be required to wear face coverings. Wraparound safety glasses are highly recommended (optional)
    • Students will receive one (1) complimentary mask, one (1) buff, and one (1) pair of wraparound safety glasses from their schools

    • All staff members, including teachers, will be required to wear face coverings. Wraparound safety glasses are highly recommended (optional)

    • Given current recommendations by the Florida Department of Health-Collier, all face coverings, including gaiters/buffs, should be a minimum of two layers. For gaiters/buffs, this may mean doubling over by the wearer

    • Non-essential visitors will not be allowed inside school buildings (e.g., mentors, vendors, family visits)

    • At the elementary level, cafeterias will be divided into separate rooms so no more than 50 people are in one area at a time. Stickers will mark the spot for students to sit - spread out six feet

    • Middle and high school students will utilize outdoor spaces for lunch

    • Classrooms and school building furniture will be frequently cleaned

    • Use of individually assigned District iPads (grades PK-K) or laptops (grades 1-12) and daily use of the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS)

    • Signage to support social distancing, in addition to a wide array of other measures, are being taken to keep our students and employees safe

    • Hand sanitizer stations will be located throughout each school campus

    • Frequent handwashing and/or use of hand sanitizer for all students and staff is encouraged


    CCPS Classroom Connect (updated Option 2) is an innovative opportunity for students to continue to learn at home while remaining registered at their enrolled schools. CCPS Classroom Connect is designed for families that do not feel comfortable sending their children to campuses at this time. This innovative model is scheduled to end after first semester with all students on campus beginning January 20 (second semester begins on January 19 with a District Virtual Learning Day).

    Collier County Public Schools (CCPS) is excited to offer eCollier Academy as an opportunity for students to participate in full-time online virtual learning CCPS teachers. eCollier Academy will serve students in Kindergarten through 8th grade, offering local instruction and support. eCollier students will get an innovative education, with a full complement of courses, school counseling support, student activities/clubs, use of a District-issued laptop, and learning pathways personalized to fit student and family needs.

    With Option 3, your student would be participating in full-time virtual learning through eCollier Academy in a flexible, asynchronous model (with regular interactions with teachers and peers). Students at the middle school level in the Option 3 (eCA) model may participate in co-curricular music courses at their zoned schools in the 2020-21 school year. There will also be virtual music courses (not ensemble band, chorus or orchestra) available through eCA. Students at the middle school level may participate in athletics at their zoned school.

    This option would have your student taking part in a home education program with a parent conducting the reporting, record keeping, and student evaluation requirements. Current law (1002.01, F.S.) does not prescribe a particular course or curriculum and the parent does not need to be a certified teacher. With Option 4, you are selecting to home educate your child.  If this option is selected, directions regarding filing an intent to home educate will be provided to the parent.

  • TEACHING AND LEARNING IN 2020-2021 (return to top)


    • CCPS will use a common template in the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) for courses to ensure a consistent experience for students, parents, and educators
    • Canvas LMS will be used daily on campus in courses and will provide flexibility to pivot to remote learning as needed
    • Revised Curriculum Guides will incorporate critical content from the last quarter of the 2019-2020 school year and adjust instructional pacing
    • Progress monitoring at the beginning of the year will determine baseline in English Language Arts (ELA) and mathematics
    • There will be continued delivery of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MtSS), Exceptional Student Education (ESE), and English Language Learner (ELL) services with health/safetyconsiderations to individual and small group services


    • Progress monitoring tools and results must be reported to the Florida Department of Education (FDOE) routinely in 2020-2021 for both on campus and eCollier Academy students
    • Instructional models are designed to meet 900 hour/180 day instruction time requirement
    • SY21 Florida Standards Assessments (FSAs) and End-of-Course (EOC) exams are currently scheduled for Spring 2021


    • Physical Education (PE) courses will refrain from close contact or "dressing out" for activities
    • Chorus, orchestra, and elementary music students will wear face coverings and seating/standing will be modified
    • Students will use assigned supplies and instructional materials (no sharing)
    • No field trips will be scheduled in the first semester, with plans pending for second semester (virtual experiences in development)
    • Media Center, band, and Career and Technical Education (CTE) procedures are currently under review


    • Continuation of CCPS 5 Social Emotional Learning (SEL) priorities will include strategies and a toolkit for coping with loss, change, and challenges
    • Professional development for educators will be provided in trauma-induced care, self-care, and strengthening classroom communities (on campus and virtually)
    • CCPS will continue to work with the Collier County Mental Health Workgroup in order to meet the needs of students and families


    • CCPS will partner will parents to provide students with enhanced education in health protocols (hand washing, hygiene, and social distancing) to feel safe and secure in the learning environment


    Social Distancing
    Students and staff are expected to maintain social distancing to the greatest extent possible

    • Physical classroom space - desks will be distanced to the greatest extent possible by removing unnecessary furniture and maximizing all available space

    • All students will face the same direction

    • No student locker use (band, hallway, or PE)

    • Water fountains will be turned off

    • Personal water bottles and use of water bottle filling stations will be permitted


    Face Coverings
    All students and staff will be expected to wear a face covering on school campus. Face coverings/masks provide an extra layer to help prevent respiratory droplets from traveling in the air and impacting others.

    Given current recommendations by Department of Health-Collier, all face coverings, including gaiters/buffs, should be a minimum of two layers. For gaiters/buffs, this may mean doubling over by the wearer.

    Safety Glasses
    Wraparound safety glasses are highly recommended (optional). Safety glasses provide wraparound protection and create an additional barrier between an individual and the virus. The glasses are made of clear plastic and are designed to be worn over prescription glasses.

    The following will be provided:

    • Students - two (2) washable face coverings
    • Staff - three (3) washable face coverings

    Audio Enhancement Microphone

    • Every District classroom is equipped with an Audio Enhancement microphone and sound system
    • Provides enhanced volume, clarity, and projection of a teacher's voice and computer sound
    • With students/teachers wearing masks, a microphone/sound system is especially important to ensure students can clearly hear their teacher
    • Provides equity of projection of a teacher's voice to all students throughout the classroom 

    Policy Changes
    School Board policies 5511 (Student Dress and Grooming) and 3216 (Staff Dress and Grooming) have been revised to include criteria for wearing protective gear such as face coverings and safety glasses during health emergencies, including situations involving pandemic and infections diseases. The Code of Student Conduct is applicable regarding student accountability.


    Hand Wash


    Handwashing and Hand Sanitizing
    Handwashing and hand sanitizing time will be built into the schedule during transitions

    • Entry to school (from car/bus)
    • Elementary transition between class/recess and recess/class/lunch
    • After use of restroom
    • Before leaving the classroom for the day/dismissal

    Hand sanitizing stations will be placed in high traffic areas (building entrances, cafeterias, media centers)

    Preventative supplies (hand soap, sanitizer, general-purpose cleaner) will be provided in each classroom, educational space, and common areas

    Limiting Large Group Gatherings

    Common Areas

    • Students will not be permitted to gather in common areas such as courtyards or hallways
    • Upon arrival to school, students will report directly to their classrooms
    • Schools will develop plans to minimize student interactions during class transitions
    • Designated stairwells and hallways with one-way traffic patterns
    • Designated traffic patterns in hallways for students to remain to the right side of the hallway
    • At dismissal, students will utilize designated exits to leave campus

    Faculty Meetings, Grade-Level/Department Meetings, and Professional Learning Communities should be held virtually

    • If a live meeting is held, the meeting should be held in a location where social distancing guidelines can be maintained
    • No more than 50 individuals should be gathering in one location
    • Faculty/staff are to remain with face coverings

    Back-to-School events, Parent Nights, and Open House events will be conducted virtually




    Systemic cleaning protocols include:

    • Removing items that have porous or fabric covered surfaces
    • Disinfecting all frequently touched surfaces in school, buses, and for all shared objects
    • Providing general-purpose cleaner in every classroom, media center, and administrative area
    • Following cleaning protocols for when a student or staff member tests positive for COVID-19
    • Continuing to replace quality air filters in our HVAC systems

    • Parents should remain in their vehicles for student drop-off and pickup
      • For early checkout, parents will use video doorbells and student(s) will report to the front entrance for pickup

    • Non-essential visitors, volunteers, and activities involving other groups are not allowed during the school day
      (e.g. mentors, vendors, family visits, lunch with students)

    • Specialized programs requiring student interaction with a mentor/champion/coach will conduct activities virtually




    Signs and infographics regarding preventative measures will be placed throughout school buildings in areas of high visibility.

    Signage will be placed throughout each campus as a reminder to practice social distancing. Signs will be placed in the following areas:

    • Video doorbells: school entrance, receiving, childcare entrance
    • Front office/main lobby
    • Hallway bathrooms
    • Guidance office
    • Food lines
    • Bus lineup areas
    • Car line areas
    • Media Center check out area
    • Concession booths
    • Ticket booths
    • Stadium bathrooms
    • Areas that do not have assigned seating areas such as music rooms, gyms, multipurpose rooms, and auditoriums




    The following safety protocols are expected to be followed on school buses:

    • Students are required to wear a face covering
    • Families should sit together, where feasible
    • School buses will be cleaned daily by drivers
    • Hand sanitizer will be used when entering the bus
    • Hand sanitizer will be used after exiting the bus and prior to entering the school




    The following safety protocols are expected to be followed during meal distribution:


    • Grab and go meals will be served at the bus loop/parent drop-off/cafeteria

    Lunch (elementary)

    • The cafeteria, courtyard, pavilion or gymnasium are being used so that students may be distanced while they eat, and then may put their masks back on and interact with their peers.

    Lunch (secondary)

    • Students will have lunch at staggered times
    • Social distancing must be maintained while in serving lines
    • Social distancing must be maintained while seated and eating


    Student Registration


    Online Student Registration

    • CCPS encourages families to use the new student registration process which is completely online
    • The online process allows parents to avoid large lines for student registration
    • Phone and email support is available in order to continue meeting social distancing guidelines




    Before and After-School Care

    • Before and after-school programs will resume

    Extracurricular Activities and Athletics

    • CCPS has implemented a phased approach for participation in athletics and activities programs

    • CCPS will suspend the "On Time, All Day, Every Day" districtwide attendance campaign for the 2020-2021 school year
    • NO attendance awards will be issued during the 2020-2021 school year
    • CCPS will continue to monitor student attendance for increased chronic absences (school and district level)

    Student Sickness - if your child has any of the following symptoms

    • fever
    • cough
    • shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
    • chills or repeated shaking with chills
    • muscle pain
    • headache
    • sore throat
    • unidentified rash
    • congestion or runny nose
    • nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea
    • new loss of taste or smell

    Student Exposure

    • if your child has been in contact with someone with COVID-19


    • if your child has been tested for or under investigation for COVID-19

    CCPS will use trained staff in all schools to support school clinics. The following will be followed when students or staff show symptoms of COVID-19:


    • Students showing COVID-19 symptoms at school will be placed in an isolation room or area to keep separated from others; parents will be notified immediately
    • The area will be reopened after it has been sanitized
    • Students will engage in virtual learning while they stay at home due to illness
    • CCPS will notify health officials, staff, and families of a possible case while maintaining confidentiality as required by the Federal Education Records Privacy Act (FERPA)


    • CCPS will notify health officials, staff, and families of a possible case while maintaining confidentiality as required by the Health Insurance Portability Act (HIPAA)

    Despite all precautionary measures, there is always a risk of exposure to communicable diseases. The following will be followed when a student or staff member is reported as a positive case of COVID-19:

    • Should a student or employee contract COVID-19 and expose others, CCPS will immediately notify ONLY those who are/were at risk of exposure due to privacy and confidentiality which are protected under law

    • CCPS will follow guidance from the Florida Department of Health - Collier regarding close contact exposure:
      • Someone who was within 6 feet of an infected person for at least 15 minutes starting from 2 days before illness onset (or, for asymptomatic patients, 2 days prior to specimen collection) until the time the individual is isolated

    • Students or employees who have been potentially exposed will be sent home, asked to isolate, and recomended to get tested for COVID-19

    • The workspace(s) will be sanitized
