School Tax Information

Collier County has the 4th LOWEST school tax millage rate of 67 Florida school districts.

How are school tax rates determined?

There are two important parts in calculating the School Board portion of property taxes: School Taxable Value (set by the Property Appraiser) and Millage Rate (set by the Legislature and local government agencies). Each of the amounts vary from year to year and depend on economic and political conditions.

WHAT IS A MILL?
The rate of taxation based on dollars per thousand of taxable assessed value. A mill is $1 for every $1,000 of taxable value.

REQUIRED LOCAL EFFORT
The rate set by the Florida Legislature; school districts must levy this amount in order to receive State funding.

DISCRETIONARY MILLAGE
A tax levied by local school boards but set by the Legislature at a maximum of 0.7480 mills as part of the Florida Education Finance Program (FEFP).

REFERENDUM
Voter approved, tax-neutral shift of .35 mills from Capital Fund to Operating Fund. Click here to learn more about the CCPS Tax-Neutral Referendum.

CAPITAL FUNDS
Funds that pay for facilities, building maintenance, equipment, and debt payments.

OPERATING FUNDS
Funds that pay for staff (including teachers, office support, bus drivers, etc.), utilities, special programs, athletics, and more.
