WINTER ATHLETICS: Guidance for Spectators

Guidance for Spectators (sport-by-sport breakdown below)

UPDATED: November 17, 2020

We are pleased the Florida Department of Health-Collier has approved the ability to have limited spectator attendance at Collier County Public Schools (CCPS) athletic competitions.

Spectators will be subject to the following health and safety guidelines:

  • All spectators will be REQUIRED to wear a face covering/mask (covering nose and mouth)

  • Open-chin triangle bandanas and face coverings containing valves/vents, mesh material, lace, holes, or other largely porous materials are NOT acceptable

  • The public health principle of social distancing remains in order to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission

CCPS WINTER SPORTS SPECTATOR GUIDANCE (alphabetical order)

HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL

  • Each CCPS student-athlete participant (players and cheerleaders) will be permitted to invite two members of his/her household to attend each HOME game
    • Two tickets will be provided to each basketball player for AWAY games
    • When our schools host non-CCPS teams, those visiting players will also be permitted to invite two members of his/her household to attend the game
    • This applies to Freshman, JV, and Varsity Basketball teams

  • Players from the Freshman, JV, and Varsity Girls and Boys Basketball teams can be inside the gym at the same time (depending on the capacity of the gym) in order to support their fellow students
    • This applies to both HOME and AWAY teams

  • In order to limit capacity, only the parents/guardians of the team currently playing will be allowed to watch

  • Spectators are required to be seated in designated spots (marked by schools’ logo stickers) in the bleachers

  • All spectators will be required to wear a face covering at all times on campus
    • This includes when waiting in a line and in the gym

  • Social distancing using pre-identified, marked bleacher seats will allow for each participant's two household guests to sit together, six feet apart from other attendees

  • No standing on the court inside the school gym

  • High schools have ticket distribution plans in place

  • Concessions will be limited to grab-and-go commercially packaged snacks; social distancing of six (6) feet will be followed

  • All persons will be required to leave the premises IMMEDIATELY after the conclusion of each contest
    • For example, if a tripleheader is scheduled, as in Freshman, JV,  and Varsity Basketball, when the first game ends, all spectators from that game will be required to leave the premises before the spectators for the next game will be permitted to enter

HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER

  • Each CCPS student-athlete participant will be permitted to invite two members of his/her household to attend each HOME and AWAY game

  • High schools are giving ticket access directly to students

  • No standing along the fence around the athletic field or nearby fence lines

  • All persons will be required to wear a protective face covering at all times when on campus
    • This includes when waiting in a line and in the stadium

  • Spectators are required to be seated in designated spots (marked by schools’ logo stickers) in the bleachers
    • Limited social distancing using pre-identified, marked bleacher seats will allow for each participant's two household guests to sit together, while maintaining space from other spectators

  • All persons will be required to leave the premises IMMEDIATELY after the conclusion of each contest
    • For example, if a double header is scheduled, as in JV and Varsity Soccer, when the first game ends, all spectators from that game will be required to leave the premises before spectators for the next game will be permitted to enter

  • Concessions will be limited to grab-and-go commercially packaged snacks; social distancing of six (6) feet will be followed

HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING

  • Limited spectator attendance will be allowed for dual or tri-meets

  • For individual tournaments, spectators will not be allowed because of gym capacity

  • Each CCPS student-athlete will be permitted to invite two members of his/her household to attend each HOME and AWAY dual or tri-meet
    • When our schools host non-CCPS teams, those visiting student-athletes will also be permitted to invite two members of his/her household to attend the meet
    • This applies to all school wrestling teams

  • Wrestlers can be inside the gym at the same time (depending on the capacity of the gym) in order to support their fellow students
    • This applies to both HOME and AWAY teams

  • In order to limit capacity, only the parents/guardians of the team currently competing will be allowed to watch

    • For example, when the JV meet ends, all spectators from that meet will be required to leave the premises before spectators for the Varsity meet enter the gym

Spectator guidance for middle schools (Winter/Spring SY 20-21 seasons) will be posted online prior to Winter Break 2020.

For family members and fans not attending an event in person, Collier County Public Schools has invested in the technology necessary to video stream basketball, soccer, and wrestling competitions in real time, live from our CCPS athletic fields and main gymnasiums.

We are excited to welcome parents and family members to our athletic events. However, our long-term goal is to keep our athletic events open to spectators. Accomplishing this goal requires shared responsibility from everyone in our community. #COVIDStopsWithMe
