Today, the Florida Department of Education (FDOE) released 2023 spring assessment results for schools across the state. The state of Florida was the first state in the nation to establish an annual assessment built on the concept of utilizing progress monitoring system. The new Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (FAST) is administered three times a year. Progress Monitoring 1 (PM1) was administered in early September 2022 and established student performance on grade level standards at the beginning of the year (prior to instruction). PM2 was administered in mid-January 2023 as a mid-year check on student progress from the beginning of the year. PM3 was administered in May 2023 as an end-of-year summative assessment to measure student mastery of the BEST Standards. PM3 will be used for school and district accountability. FAST provides teachers, students, and parents with real-time, immediate, and actionable data at the beginning, middle, and end of the school year to drive student improvement.
