TROPICAL STORM IDALIA
UPDATE #1
Monday, August 28, 2023

Collier County Public Schools (CCPS) continues to actively monitor Tropical Storm Idalia very closely. Information received from the National Weather Service in Miami from the 5pm advisory, we are NOT in the projected path and do not expect significant rain or sustained winds above 35mph during the school day that would impede school bus operations.

As of 5:30pm on Monday, August 28:

  • All school and district sites will be OPEN for normal operations during the school day on Tuesday, August 29.

    • Information from the National Hurricane Center DOES NOT support closing CCPS.

  • Out of an abundance of caution due to predicted inclement weather in the evening, all school and district sites will close after 4:00pm on Tuesday, August 29.

    • Activities and athletic competitions scheduled after 4:00pm on Tuesday, August 29, will be canceled and will likely be rescheduled.

    • Leases scheduled after 4:00pm on Tuesday, August 29, will be suspended.

    • Curriculum Nights/Open House events scheduled for Tuesday, August 29, will be rescheduled.

  • All school and district sites are expected to be OPEN for normal operations on Wednesday, August 30.

CCPS will continue to monitor the storm's path and collaborate with the National Weather Center and Collier County Bureau of Emergency Management for the latest information. Should there be a change in the forecast impacting District operations at CCPS sites, we will use all of our communication channels to provide timely information.

Please continue to monitor our communication channels for additional updates. Be sure to follow us on our District website (collierschools.com) and on social media (@collierschools) for the latest information.
