Former Students Soar Back to Inspire at Lely High School's Aviation Academy

Naples, FL — Alumni from Lely High School’s Aviation Academy returned to their alma mater in December to inspire the next generation of aviators. Led by Mr. Alan Davis, the Aviation Academy has been a launchpad for students aspiring to careers in aviation, and this visit showcased the program’s lasting impact.

The returning alumni, now professionals in the aviation industry, shared their journeys with current students. Among them are pilots and airline professionals, including one who has already earned the rank of captain. “This is why we do what we do,” said Mr. Davis, reflecting on the success of his former students. “Seeing them come back as professionals to give back to the program is incredibly rewarding. It’s proof of the doors aviation education can open for our students.”

From the ground to the sky, Lely’s Aviation Academy excels at giving students the wings to soar. The program highlights some of the brightest and most hardworking students while opening a world of opportunity to all who desire to chase their dreams into the sky.

Students in the Lely High Aviation Academy also have access to cutting-edge avionics simulators and a scholarship program that helps make dual enrollment courses more accessible. Students desiring advanced studies may be dual enrolled at Lely High and at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, with courses that include Introduction to Aeronautical Science, Unmanned Aerial Systems, and Private Pilot Operations.  Those students receive eleven semester hours of college with a value of $30,000.  Mr. Davis is a credentialed adjunct professor for Embry-Riddle, which means local students receive the same curriculum as students on the Embry-Riddle campus in Daytona Beach.

“With interesting classes, amazing simulators, and pathways to higher education and careers, Lely’s program gives students a first-class ticket to their futures,” Mr. Davis added.

The Aviation Academy, part of Collier County Public Schools, continues to offer students a unique opportunity to gain foundational knowledge in aviation while preparing them for success beyond high school. Alumni visits like this are a testament to the program’s success in inspiring and educating future aviation professionals.
