Moving Forward Update - Gear Up Activities, Face Coverings, and Collier Connect Devices
August 18, 2020
We are looking forward to the first day of school on Monday, August 31st. Please review the below information for important updates.
GEAR UP ACTIVITIES (AUGUST 17-30)
"Gear Up" activities will preview upcoming instructional content, provide your child with opportunities to practice the skills that will help you be successful, and available from any device with Internet access. Teaching and Learning developed two weeks of Gear Up activities, that began yesterday, August 17. These are optional, engaging, district-created instructional activities that are non-graded and allow your child to work at his/her own pace. Your child may access Gear Up activities through the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
To access "Gear Up" activities:
- Log into Canvas by visiting canvas.collierschools.com
- Click on "Modules"
- Find the correct week
- Choose a specific area page link
- Read the directions and complete the activity
For assistance, please visit the "Pages" link in the Canvas navigation bar and find the specific page to assist you in troubleshooting. In "Pages," you will find assistance with Canvas and extra subject area resources.
FACE COVERINGS AND COLLIER CONNECT DEVICES - STUDENTS ON CAMPUS
Face coverings are required on buses and campuses beginning on Monday, August 31st. If your student is attending school on campus, please ensure he/she has a face covering beginning on the first day. CCPS face coverings and safety glasses (highly recommended) will be distributed on the first day of school to provide each student with additional supplies. If you would like to receive these supplies ahead of the first day, please contact your child’s school.
AStudents on campus will also begin using their Collier Connect devices (iPads for Pre-K and Kindergarten and laptops for grades 1-12) and earbuds with inline microphones on the first student day. Students may begin bringing home the devices daily upon receipt of the completed acknowledgement forms that will be distributed on the first student day.
CLASSROOM CONNECT AND eCOLLIER ACADEMY (eCA)
Schools will contact parents of students in Classroom Connect and eCA regarding the pickup schedule for Collier Connect devices, instructional materials, and other District resources/supplies.
