Tropical Storm Eta - Update #2
TROPICAL STORM ETA
Sunday, November 8, 2020
Collier County Public Schools continues to monitor Tropical Storm Eta very closely. Our area is under a Tropical Storm Warning, Hurricane Watch, and a State of Emergency declared by the Governor. The current projections keep Collier County in the cone of concern, with effects of the storm expected late Sunday night through Monday. The storm effects could bring heavy rain to our area, as well as winds that could potentially exceed safe levels for buses to be on the road (sustained winds of 35mph or more).
Therefore, out of an abundance of caution for student and staff safety, Collier County Public Schools will be CLOSED tomorrow (Monday, November 9, 2020). There will be no school for virtual students as well.
- All CCPS sites will be closed
- All after-school programs held at CCPS sites will be closed
- All extracurricular activities, including athletic practices and competitions, will be canceled
- All Adult and Community Education classes will be canceled
- All District leases will be suspended
We will make a determination about Tuesday by 3:00pm, tomorrow (Monday, November 9).
KEEP LEARNING ALIVE
CCPS is committed to "Keep Learning Alive" during periods of school closures and planned breaks. These various resources provide opportunities for students to work independently as well as engaging activities for the whole family. Consider taking a virtual field trip, checking out an electronic book from SORA, or exploring career opportunities!
Additionally, students may work on assignments that may be pending in their scheduled courses. Please share any questions with email@example.com.
HURRICANE MAKE-UP DAYS
Due to the amount of instructional time in the first semester, there will be no impact to the scheduled Hurricane Make-Up Days (November 23 and 24). At this time, CCPS will not need to make up tomorrow's day off. The scheduled Hurricane Make-Up days will remain non-school days for students and staff. Fall Break remains November 23 - November 27.
CCPS will continue to monitor the storm's path and collaborate with the Collier County Bureau of Emergency Management for the latest information regarding potential storm impacts.
Please stay safe and monitor our communication channels for additional updates.
