HURRICANE IAN
UPDATE #6
Saturday, October 1, 2022
We know many of you are facing challenges from Hurricane Ian. Reopening our schools comes with many serious considerations, including electricity at schools and homes, staffing availability, road closures, fuel scarcity, significant flooding and debris, dangerous driving conditions, traffic control system outages, food issues, boil water notices, and the availability of Youth Relations Deputies and nurses who serve during times of emergency.
This message pertains to students and parents only. CCPS employees will receive a separate email with further information.
Below is the schedule for return to normal operations, pending clearance of school sites.
- Monday, October 3: All CCPS sites will be closed
- Tuesday, October 4: All CCPS sites will be closed
- Wednesday, October 5: No school for students and teachers in accordance with the 2022-23 Academic Calendar
- Thursday, October 6: Students and teachers return - all CCPS sites open
We are currently assessing the academic calendar and storm impacts regarding Hurricane Make-up Days and will provide an update when information is available.
The arduous process of rebuilding from a Category 4 hurricane will take considerable time. That being said, we understand the importance of continuity of learning for students and the role of schools in supporting our community’s recovery effort.
Please stay safe and continue to monitor our communication channels for additional updates. Be sure to follow us on our District website (collierschools.com) and on social media (@collierschools) for the latest information.
