CCPS Awarded for Excellence in Financial Reporting
Collier County Public Schools (CCPS) has earned two national recognitions for excellence in financial reporting.
“Fiscal responsibility was an immediate focus of mine and a School Board priority,” explained CCPS Superintendent Dr. Leslie C. Ricciardelli. “Being recognized by national organizations for our fiscal accountability and responsibility is another demonstration of our efforts to be transparent.”
First, the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) awarded CCPS with its Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the District’s annual comprehensive financial report for the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2023. An impartial panel judged the report to meet the high standards of the program, which include demonstrating a constructive "spirit of full disclosure" to clearly communicate its financial story.
The GFOA advances excellence in government finance by providing best practices, professional development, resources, and practical research for more than 21,000 members and the communities they serve. The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.
This month, CCPS also received the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Association of School Business Officials (ASBO) International. The award, which is sponsored by ASBO International Strategic Partner American Fidelity, represents a momentous achievement and reflects the District’s commitment to transparency and high-quality financial reporting.
“For over half a century, ASBO International’s Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting has been the gold standard in promoting and recognizing excellence in financial reporting,” according to ASBO International Executive Director Jim Rowan, CAE, SFO. “Communicating the financial and economic state of a district is so important when engaging with the school community and building their trust. Districts that receive the COE Award have demonstrated their ability to do that at the highest level.”
“This is the first time CCPS has been awarded these honors, which fills me with immense pride and gratitude,” said CCPS Chief Financial Officer John Antonacci. “It’s an amazing testament to the dedication and expertise of our team. Together, we've not only met but exceeded our goals, setting a standard of merit we can all be proud of.”
