Summer Learning and Mask Updates

With the end of the 2020-2021 school year a few days away, we want to provide you with several important updates:

Gear Up for Next School Year Summer Learning Activities

As a result of disrupted learning due to COVID-19, and the potential for student learning loss, we encourage all students to participate in Gear Up for Next School Year.

Beginning on June 14 through July 23, the District will provide summer learning opportunities for students in grades PreK-10 in the areas of English, Math, Science and Social Studies to Gear Up for the Next School Year. These engaging activities are designed to sustain student learning during the summer months and prepare students for next school year. All CCPS students currently in grades 2-9 will have access to a Gear Up course through Canvas which will appear on their Canvas dashboard and which students will access using their District-provided device. Students in PreK, Kindergarten and first grade will bring home a calendar of activities that they can complete throughout the summer.

Participation is voluntary, including for those enrolled in summer school, and participants will work independently at their own pace on these non-graded activities. Gear Up is not a substitute for participation in summer school. Students enrolled in summer school will receive additional email communication with specific information prior to the start of the summer school session.

Voluntary Wearing of Masks on School and District Sites

With the commencement of summer school, on June 21, 2021, the District shall move to (a) the wearing of face masks on a voluntary basis; and (b) the resumption of regular District activities. In accordance with the Florida Department of Education Commissioner’s April 14, 2021, Memorandum, the voluntary wearing of face masks shall continue with the return to school for the 2021-2022 school year. In the event of a resurgence of COVID-19, or other health emergencies, the District will act in conformity with the provisions set forth in Senate Bill 2006, as referenced in the Governor’s Executive Order Number 21-101, and Board Policy 8450.01. (Click here to read Resolution 21-2, passed by the District School Board of Collier County on June 8, 2021.)

District Laptop Resources and Guidelines for Summer

A device for every student is one benefit of CCPS enrollment, and students are encouraged to use the technology during the summer to Gear Up for Next School Year. Parents, please take initiative to ensure your child(ren):

  • Please do not leave your laptop continuously plugged into the charger. "A charge overnight is just right"
  • Securely store the laptop when not in use, avoiding extremely hot temperatures in vehicles
  • Carry your laptop in a plastic, waterproof bag in the event of rain
  • Browse safely and responsibly at all times, rules of use apply whether on or off campus
  • CCPS staff are ready to assist parents and students this summer
