Athletic Trainers
Athletic Trainers are health care professionals who render service or treatment, under the direction of or in collaboration with a physician, in accordance with their education and training under the states' statutes, rules and regulations managed by the Florida Department of Health and enforced by the Florida Board of Athletic Training. As a part of the health care team, services provided by athletic trainers include injury and illness prevention, wellness promotion and education, emergent care, examination, therapeutic intervention, and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions.

CDC Statistics
Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Concussion:
- In 2014, approximately 2.87 million TBI-related emergency department visits, hospitalizations, and deaths occurred in the United States, including over 837,000 of these health events among children. TBI contributed to the deaths of 56,800 people, including 2,529 deaths among children.*
- In 2019 15% of all U.S. high school students self reported one or more sports or recreation related concussions within the preceding 12 months.*
Sudden Cardiac Arrest:
Each year, more than 350,000 people experience out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). Approximately 70%- 90% of individuals with OHCA die before reaching the hospital.*
Opioid Abuse:
109,593 drug overdose deaths occurred in the United States in 2022 with 8,205 in Florida. Opioids were involved in approximately 70% of those deaths.*
