Industry Certification
Industry certification is earned by a person to assure qualifications have been met to perform a job or task. Most certification programs are created, sponsored, or affiliated with professional associations, trade organizations, or IT vendors (i.e. Microsoft) interested in raising standards. These certifications must be renewed periodically, or may be valid for a specific period of time. Due to changing employment and increased ever-changing technology requirements, industry certification provides an impartial, third-party endorsement of a person’s professional knowledge and experience and is often recognized across the country. Certifications are usually earned from a professional society or educational institute, not the government. If a demonstration of ability or knowledge is required by law before being allowed to perform a task or job, it is referred to as licensure by state agencies. Licensure may or may not be accepted across state lines therefore, individuals may have to retest for licensure when applying for positions in different states.
All CCPS high schools are authorized testing centers for Industry Certifications, as approved by the Florida Department of Education. Students enrolled in Collier Career Academies and approved Career Themed Courses will have the opportunity to earn industry recognized credentials of value.
Benefits of Industry Certification Testing
HIGH SCHOOL CREDIT - Upon successful attainment of a qualifying industry certification, students would be eligible for substitution credit in mathematics and/or science (not including Algebra 1, Geometry, or Biology).
COLLEGE CREDIT & COST SAVINGS - The state of Florida has approved statewide articulation agreements with many providers, allowing students to earn college credit when they achieve specific certifications. This translates to a possible cost savings of approximately $320.58 or more on tuition and fees for certain college courses.

FLORIDA BRIGHT FUTURES SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM - Students can qualify for the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program through the Florida Gold Seal CAPE Scholarship (GSC) by completing at least 30 service hours and earning a minimum of five (5) postsecondary credit hours through Gold Standard Certifications.
EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES - Certifications related to career courses are valuable tools that can help students find employment after leaving the school district.
FUNDING - The Florida Department of Education allocates funds to the school district based on the number of students who successfully earn certifications.
