Home Education
Welcome to the Home Education Program Office’s website. The site contains information and resources to assist you as you home educate your child(ren). The purpose of the Home Education Program is to permit parents to comply with the compulsory school attendance law while teaching their child(ren) at home. For the purpose of this document, “parent” refers to the parent or guardian.
To establish a Home Education Program, a parent must provide written notice to the district school superintendent of his/her intent to establish and maintain a home education program. The Home Education Program applies only to students ages six (6) through sixteen (16).
The parent who assumes responsibility for educating a child at home also assumes the responsibility for providing curriculum, educational materials, and evaluations necessary to determine student progress. Collier County Public Schools does not supply textbooks, curriculum guides, or educational standards for the home-educated student.
Requirements of the Home Education Program are outlined in Florida Statute 1002.41.

In accordance with FS 1002.41, 1003.21, 1003.26, the District provides additional monitoring for a small group of students with a pattern of non-attendance prior to their Home Education enrollment. In accordance with prevailing law, the District will be establishing a committee to monitor these students for attendance compliance. The committee will be comprised of the District’s contact person for Home Education and two parents who have been home educators for 3 or more years. Part of the monitoring process includes reviewing the student’s portfolio and meeting (virtually) with the student’s parent/guardian to share practical tips and guidance on how to maintain a successful home education program. The reviews will occur until the committee feels the student has met the necessary expectations.
