These skills include, but are not limited to: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint (MOS Certification); QuickBooks Certification; business math; business ethics, written and oral communication; filing; medical terminology; Medisoft; medical case studies and reports.

This program offers a broad foundation of knowledge and skills expanding the traditional role of the Medical Secretary. The content includes the use of technology to develop communication skills, higher level thinking skills, and decision making skills; medical terminology; the performance of office procedures specific to the medical environment; the production of quality work in an efficient manner using advanced features of business software applications; and the production of high quality employment portfolios and job-seeking documents.

Students in the Medical Administrative Specialist program prepare a portfolio that highlights the skills they learned, in order to prepare them for a challenging career, and a showcase of certifications earned. Students also create a professional resume and letter of application.
There are a variety of projects within the four Occupational Completion Points. Students will need to complete all of the projects in order to satisfy the curriculum requirements for this course.

The equipment and supplies in the business technology classroom are provided to enhance hands-on experiences for students. Included in the lab are 30 Windows PC computers with dual-screens, one HP Laser Printer and one color printer.

OTA0040 – Information Technology Assistant (150 hours)
This course provides an overview of current business and information systems and trends, and introduces students to the basic skills and foundations required in today’s business environments. Emphasis is placed on developing proficiency with touch keyboarding and fundamental computer applications so they may be used as communication tools for enhancing personal and workplace proficiency in an information-based society

OTA0041 – Front Desk Specialist (300 hours)
This course is designed to assist with administrative and general office duties in a support capacity and to develop proficiency in using the advanced features of software programs to perform office-related tasks. It also explores and expands the core competencies in the areas of personal and professional development and promotes application of higher-level office procedures, tasks and communication skills through the use of technology.

OTA0631 – Medical Office Technologist (300 hours)
This course includes performing specialized medical office procedures including health insurance, verification, billing and collections and scheduling auxiliary services, preparing medical documents, maintaining and utilizing a medical reference library, and transcribing medical documents.

OTA0651 – Medical Administrative Specialist (300 hours)
This course provides a capstone of medical office functions, to include medical terminology, medical emergency management procedures and medical document transcription.

Internships
Various businesses and clinics are partners with iTECH’s Business Technology program and some provide excellent internship opportunities for our students. Students are encouraged to research area business, clinics and hospitals to arrange your own specialized internship experience.
Workforce Education Internship Program
Students participate in work-based learning experiences in their field of study outside of the classroom. ITECH has a Workforce Internship Program for those students who need work experience, but do not have an out-of-school job.
Job Placement
Our competent counseling staff provides job postings on a daily basis, with help in resume writing and the interviewing process.

A certificate is awarded to students who successfully complete the program’s competencies and satisfy basic skill requirements in accordance with state guidelines. Students will also have the opportunity to test and earn additional industry and national credentials through the training program.
