The First Word in Nutrition Services is NUTRITION!

  • Fly high by eating healthy

The meals served in Collier County Schools as part of the National School Lunch and Breakfast program follow the USDA nutrition requirements to assure that children are getting the right amount of energy from food (Calories) and nutrients for ideal growth and development.   Our school breakfasts contain ¼ of the RDA (Recommended Dietary Allowances) and our school lunches contain 1/3 of the RDA for each grade groups of students (K-5, 6-8 and 9-12).
The Dietary Guidelines for Americans are mirrored in our menu choices.  Whole Grain rich breads, pasta, rice, cereals and tortillas are featured on our menus and are needed for healthy digestion.
Vitamin A rich, dark green, leafy vegetables and red/orange vegetables are planned each week.
Our fruit choices are packed with nutrients and antioxidants.   Four ounce, portion controlled, 100% juice is the only kind available with meals.   Fiber and B vitamin rich legumes/beans are included on the menu each week.  Fat-free and 1% low-fat milk that provides 9 essential nutrients are offered at every meal.  Saturated fat is limited to 10% or less and there are zero Trans fats.  Sodium and sugar are limited.  Foods are portion controlled and Calories are age appropriate for healthy growth.

We are concerned about the health of our students and encourage healthy foods and adequate exercise to assist our student bodies in appropriate growth to reach maximum physical and academic performance.  Of course getting enough sleep, limited screen time (no more than 2 hours per day), avoidance of empty calorie beverages and eating enough fruits and vegetables every day are key to healthy growth and development every day throughout the year.

Our Registered Dietitian and team of School Nutrition Professionals work hard to plan, prepare and serve healthy foods that taste good in all of our schools every school day.  Please be sure to check out our interactive menus where you will find not only the menu, but also nutrition content, allergen information and how to get connected with our menu app at MealViewer.com.
